According to the city and county's joint comprehensive plan, we need 28-29 new subdivisions the size of Pepper's Mill by 2040. Without making some changes we will not meet that need, driving housing prices higher and making the housing shortage worse as the announced new plants start construction and operation.
The Hendron Fire Department recently spent approximately $30,000 to purchase a swift water rescue boat, trailer, and send several fire fighters to training to be able to perform swift water rescues. This was necessitated by the increased flooding we have experienced in our county. It is critical we assess this issue to determine if there are any steps we can take locally to help reduce the likely hood of these potentially catastrophic events.
